چکیده

Salivary gland tumors are often considered difficult to diagnose pathologically because of their histological variability and complexity. There were only nine types in the first edition (1972) WHO classification salivary tumors; however, 35 will be adopted 5th (2022). This is mainly due epidemiological data, recognition new concepts, advances immunohistochemistry discovery tumor-specific gene mutations.

An update on salivary gland pathology.

Over the past few decades, salivary gland tumor pathology has evolved. This includes recognition of newly defined entities as well as reclassification of other salivary gland tumors [1]. The development of genetic tests have shown that some salivary gland tumors have genetic abnormalities which are specific to a histologic type such as MECT1– MAML2 gene fusion in mucoepidermoid carcinoma and PL...

Recent advances in salivary gland cytopathology

Salivary gland tumors (SGTs) are noted for their exceptional heterogeneity and diversity and for the common morphological overlap taking place between the different entities. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is a valuable tool in the primary diagnosis and management of SGTs. These lesions are generally not subjected to incisional or core needle biopsy because of possible risk of causing a...

Advances in salivary gland pathology.

This review summarizes the new findings on salivary gland pathology under the following categories: immunohistochemistry; molecular genetics; newly recognized tumour types; known tumour entities with new findings; and progression of salivary gland tumours. In the application of immunohistochemistry, CD117 can aid in highlighting the luminal cell component of various salivary gland tumours, wher...

Carcinosarcoma of the salivary gland on CT.

Three cases of carcinosarcoma of the salivary gland, two in the submandibular gland, and one in the parotid, were investigated with CT and exhibited a variety of findings. The density of the tumors was lower than that of normal submandibular tissue. A calcification was found in one case. One case showed extensive lymphadenopathy. The parotid lesion had low central density with an enhancing margin.
